This is a self portrait of me and our dog Sammie (who has now passed away). She thought that I was asleep and crept onto the couch wiggling her way under the cover. She typically sat next to the sofa until invited up-she waited and waited until she couldn't resist. I had my daughter snap the picture for this sentimental memory.

About Susan Hensel

Susan Hensel

Art is in my DNA. Relatives from both sides of my family were and are successful artists. I worked as an artist in Oklahoma for 26 years, focusing on Portraiture in Oil. I grew up near Kansas City, MO and in January 2019 I returned to my Missouri roots and am settled near St. Louis. I have a fine arts degree that encompasses dance performance and art. I studied everything from the sciences of the body and movement, to lighting, stage design and choreography. Following college I performed for a short time with the Springfield Ballet. All of this plays into my love of painting figures moving through life. My mission is for my paintings to depict the activities of life and to elicit the joy of living.
